Aloha Aquatic Center

I love this picture because, to me, all of the animals are anxiously waiting for someone to pull them in the water. (Maybe I've watched Toy Story one too many times.)

I have worked with Aloha Aquatic Center before while covering a shoot for Kids Celebrate Magazine. However, this time I was asked to photographed their facility for their new online gallery.
I sat in on part of a lesson and couldn't help but notice how much fun the kids were having.
If anyone is interested in swimming lessions or birthday parties, you should give them a call.

Brilliant Sky Toys and Books
Unlike most toys being sold today, most of Brilliant Sky's products seemed to be battery-free and very geared towards learning and building.
They are offering lots of great programs and opportunities for kids and parents each month. Call or go online to sign-up for their monthly newsletter.
I can't wait to visit this store again!

Emma

I got to photograph Emma at her 6-month (and one day, but who is counting?) milestone. Isn't she so pretty?
She was laying on her blanket beside a waterfall for most of her shots. About half-way through, she just laid her head down and closed her eyes. I guess the sound of the water was really relaxing her. It was so sweet.

John

John's eyes are so blue. But, with this shirt on... WOW! They really stand-out.
I experienced a 'first' during our session....As we were walking through the park, I hear lots of little footsteps behind us. I turn around and there were more ducks than I could count following us! So many, in fact, we had to run them off before we could do any photos! It was very, very funny!

Matt, Jennifer & Riley
You probably recognize Riley off my blog or website. She is Jennifer's (my best friend from kindergarden) baby girl. I'm proud to say she is also my God-daughter.The last time I photographed Matt and Jennifer together was when Jennifer was pregnant with Riley. So, it was about time for family pictures!
We had a great time- as usual. And Riley, as usual, was perfect!

Coming in at #1...
We loved exploring this place so much, we ended up going four more times!

Horse Trough

Quick story...
One afternoon, me, Matthew and Michelle took Ross and Joseph with us as we fed the horses, shoveled manure and cleaned out the stalls in the barn. (Yes, this was all our idea. And, yes, as expected, we had fun doing it.)
Ross and Joseph got into the horse troughs for a mid-day swim. They had a blast splashing around and jumping from one trough to another!

Rayna & Matthew

My little baby-girl is breaking my heart! She is crawling and pulling-up on everything. She is such a joy. I love these new stages, but, it makes me sad to think about how quickly she's growing up. (Can I make another remark about how adorable she is? It's my blog, so, technically, I think I can. SHE'S SO ADORABLE!)

Just hanging out..
There's nothing better than watching fire flies at night by a big fire. Or, playing baseball with all of the kids in the backyard. One of my favorite things are when the horses decide to start running in their pasture in front of the house. That has to be one of the most beautiful sites in the entire world.

Time for Family Photos!
It can be a challenge to get two little boys, under the age of three, to sit still for ANY picture. Much less, doing one with an automatic timer. (Which required lots of standing still... waiting... and, of course, retakes!)

Dennis and Patricia (Matthew's parents)
...What an incredible looking couple!

Michelle (expecting Kenslee in a few months) with Austen and Joseph.
My Little 'Doll-Baby'
Madison, Rayna's only girl cousin, did Rayna's hair the first day we were in Arkansas. I had to take a some pictures, because, let's face it... Rayna is the prettiest little girl I've ever seen!I love her cheeks...
I love her dimples...
I love her curly hair...
I love her bright blue eyes...
I love her little teeth...
I love her chubby arms...
I just love my little Rayna-Claire-Bear!

Liam, Seamus & Brooklyn
When I started shooting, Liam didn't seem to be in the mood for photos. I discovered very quickly, he just wanted to play. PERFECT!
We played on the playground together and I got some great shots! (He has so many cute facial expressions!)
His little brother, Seamus, was very laid-back. He tried many positions for us and was sweet the entire time. When Brooklyn arrived, the fun really started as we tried to get them all together for pictures! (She had some great faces too!)

Kenji, Bonnie, Elijah & Kiana
In any case, I got to photograph a CUTIE-PIE (and his pretty little sister), while spending time with an incredibly nice family!

And I REALLY look forward to their wedding next year! They are getting married at Pinnacle Country Club in NW Arkansas. They were both already gorgeous-- just in jeans. I can't imagine what they'll look like on their wedding day!

Chandler Public Library

I joined lots of parents and kids this morning for stories and songs at the Chandler Public Library. The kids totally got into the music.
It was nice having some time alone before our trip to Arkansas. But, since I normally have Ross on one knee and Rayna on the other during weekly activities just like this, it felt strange not having them there with me. As I watched the kids singing and dancing, I knew Ross would have been right up there in front of the guitar, doing his 'Ross-Dance.' (In case you haven't seen it, he bends his body to a sitting position... while jumping as high as he can... while holding his arms back as far as they can go. It's the cutest thing I've ever seen!)

"Ruth's Chris"
(Get it?)
I am so lucky to meet such wonderful families while I'm 'working.' (I use that term lightly because of how much I enjoy what I'm doing.) Chris and Ruth were both so sweet and laid-back. Little Ruby was so playful, active and tough! As long as we were close to trees or water, she was a happy little girl!

The poll will only allow each person to vote once.
GEORGIA SESSION: The Echols
GEORGIA SESSION: The Robertsons
GEORGIA SESSION: The Cronics

What a great way to start my day! I always enjoy being with this family. (Which happens to actually feel like a second family to me. I've known them since I was born.)
I've gotten to watch and photograph Nash, Caroline and Presley since they were little-bitty. Before long, Baby Cash will be running around with everyone else.
GEORGIA SESSION: The Burnleys
GEORGIA SESSION: Marcy, Matt & Colter

I should have known Marcy and I would be instant friends. Just five minutes into her interview (at Dr. Clayton's office), I found out she loves Chris Daughtry more than me! Years later, I still think Marcy is the greatest. And Matt, her son, is no exception. He excells in sports and academics. I would love to know Marcy's secrets on how to raise such a happy, nice, funny and wonderful son.
GEORGIA SESSION: Dr. Clayton and family

Although he and Donna weren't in most of the photos, I have to brag a little about Dr. Clayton. I met him ten years ago when we were both working at a large dental practice. When I heard he opened his own practice, I wanted so badly to work for him. (He was so laid-back and funny. Not to mention brilliant.) During my time at Clayton Dental, I learned so much about dentistry, not to mention business in general.
He just opened a gorgeous new office in Suwanee. If anyone needs a dentist, give his office a call at 770-932-0290. (How's that for a plug?)
GEORGIA SESSION: Gage

What can I say about Gage? For starters, can you believe how stinkin' cute he is?! Just minutes after he arrived, I knew I'd already gotten the shots I wanted. (That's very unusual for a child, especially a boy, at that age!) He was sweet and playful as can be. He makes my job so fun and rewarding.
Thanks for missing the Braves game for family photos!
GEORGIA SESSION: The Darrells: Liza and Emily

These girls have grown so much since our last session together! As always, they were so sweet and affectionate towards one another. I'm always anxious to see what pretty outfits the family will be in. I hope they enjoyed their ice cream after our session. They deserved it for being so sweet and pretty!
GEORGIA SESSION: The Hames

This was my third time doing photos for the Hames. Each time, I really enjoy spending time with Zachary, the oldest child. His speech and communication skills always blow me away. (I asked him at one point if he would catch me if I jumped to him. He looks at me with a serious face and says, "I can't catch you because you're an adult and too heavy.")
GEORGIA SESSION: Cindy and family
GEORGIA SESSION: Baby Tyler
GEORGIA SESSION: Jason & Ashley

Even though I stay updated on their recent trips and vacations through emails and postings, it was really good to see Ashley and Jason in person and catch-up. I also got to meet Ashley's family. They were so warm and fun to work with. I'm glad I had a little extra time with this family. I really enjoyed the entire session with them.

Counting Down the Days!

I don't know about "unexpected" happiness, because I know, whatever we're doing, it will be AWESOME to just be there with my family enjoying our time together.
I also want to say "Thank You" to all the families who have booked a session with me during my visit. I was completely honored that I was able to schedule over 16 families during my time back!
Because of your love and support, I am, officially, booked-up and unable to book anymore sessions during this trip. If you were one of the families who still wanted to book a session, please continue to check my blog for more updates on return trips and future sessions. (I know I will be back in October and during the holidays!)
Thank you again!
I look SO forward to being back, seeing my family, and, of course, taking lots of pictures!!!

"Lead Me to the Cross"
So, with that being said, I sit here tonight, coming up on 2am, feeling myself drawing closer and closer to God. For me, that always starts with music. (Right now, I'm listening to my sister's Myspace playlist.)
Lately, I've found my desire is to spend time reading the Bible and listening to God; but, I've allowed other things to get in the way. It's so appropriate that the words from "Lead Me to the Cross" are playing right now:
"Savior I come
Quiet my soul...
Everything I once held dear...
I count it all as lost
Lead me to the cross...
Rid me of myself
I belong to You..."
It's a great reminder for me to put all my other projects, emails, distractions away and focus on what's really important.

My New Favorite Photo!
Aside from a photo I took in Africa of a little boy bathing naked in the street, THIS is my new, all-time, favorite photo! If you're thinking, "It's really not even that great...", you've GOT to hear the story behind it:
We were at McCormick's Railroad Park in Scottsdale enjoying a GORGEOUS day! I, naturally, was taking pictures of Rayna when I decided to put my camera down and lay beside her on the grass.
When she turned her head and saw that my face was right beside hers, she started the deepest and loudest BELLY LAUGH that she's ever done! Luckily, I reached for my camera... held it up above our heads... and got this picture of us laughing hysterically at... well, I'm still not sure. But, something was awfully funny at that moment!

understanding."
"I have tried to honor that promise to God, it's been through many tears and sometimes some "why's" but I love God with all my heart and so thankful for Him. You never really know how you will cope when something tragic happens in your life but with God we are never alone, I am thankful for that."

4 different doctors...
1 panicked trip to the emergency room...
and 4 different prescriptions,
we are finally starting to understand what happened to Ross' eye that caused swelling and extreme irritation.
Poor Ross has been such a sweetheart this week. I know he's in pain, but he's hasn't complained once. He is the most wonderful little boy!

Christmas Day
We played outside with Ross' new toys. (We even managed to set the camera up on automatic timer for a quick picture.)
Claudia and Gabe came over to bring Ross a gift. He was so happy to have his friends over he started screaming and turning all of his toys over upstairs. Gabe came down and told Matthew, "Ross is scaring me."
I think his favorite toys were the plastic animals we bought him. He loved them so much, he wouldn't eat lunch without them all sitting in front of his plate watching him!

Overnight Celebrities
Just days before my mom's visit, I received a call from a friend who was directing and filming a commercial that weekend. He asked if me and my mom would be interested in being in it. Without thinking, I said, "Yes! Absolutley! Sign us up!" When I called my mom to tell her the great news, she wasn't quite as excited. But, being the great sport she IS, she agreed.
Family's Visit to Arizona
Our week included LOTS of my mom's cooking...candy making... trips to the park... pictures... her birthday dinner...and more. The only way it could have been better is if they stayed a month instead of a week.

Gavin's Funeral
"Praise You In This Storm"
(move the curser to 2:00 to bypass the intro)
I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
And I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find You
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
****************************************************************************
I thought it might be somewhat comforting for Gavin's family to know there were so many people, all over the United States, lovingly praying for Gavin. Even after he passed away, I continued to get emails from people telling me they were still praying for the family. Here are just a few:
"Hi Christy, If my memory serves me correct, I believe you said that your friend's C-section is today for baby Gavin. I woke up with the an incredible push from God to pray for this family. They will be in my prayers today. May God bless them. Karla"
"Brad and I have been praying and as I’ve been cleaning teeth all day long, I’ve been staring at my clock thinking about what time it is there and about all of you…….God Bless! Anne"
"I am praying, praying, praying for tomorrow! Kathy"
********************************************************************
"Christy, Thank you so much for the update. I was updated with the devastating news yesterday. I am so sorry that baby Gavin did not make it. Alicia and her family are in my prayers. Please let her know that I am thinking of her and pray that her heart and soul come to grip with all that is happening."
"We are so sad. We prayed and believed that God would heal baby Gavins body and let him be a testimony to his mercy and grace. God always has a better plan....if we only knew what that was. Our prayers are with the family."
"Beautifully written. Tears.
-H"
"I know heaven's angels are planting lots of kisses on his sweet little face, my heart and prayers are with Alicia and her family. Please keep me updated. God bless you and your family, Christy, for sacrificing yourself."
"Christy, I prayed for this family and would love to see a picture of this sweet little baby. My heart breaks for them, but at least he is with his Father in heaven and 100% whole. What sad news. I am sure it must have been so difficult for everyone present. With sadness,
Jodi"
"Christy we are sad and at the same time are confident that baby Gavin is with the Lord. It was good that you could be there to capture with your camera a photo of little Gavin so his parents will always remember him. May God Bless you today. sandy"
"I got your message this morning and am so sorry to hear that. Was/am too choked up to call. All of our prayers weren't enough, but I'm not surprised he put up a good fight. I do want to stay updated. I can't even imagine what they are going through and am keeping them in my prayers. Mary"
"thank you for the update christy. i will continue to pray for Gavin's family. As he is in the most beautiful place ever. i consider him very blessed to get to be with God already! still, i can only imagine the heartache the family has over his loss. i pray for God's comfort, peace and joy in the midst of thier sorrow. rheada"
"Wow! I am so thankful that God used you to encourage us all in this difficult situation. May the peace that passes all understand uphold Alicia and her family. We continue to give this child back to the Lord and rejoice for the time that Alicia embraced precious Gavin. Thanks for all your love! Marnie"
"Christy thank you for calling tonight. I don't even know this family and yet my heart is broken for them. I hope you understand that you have been blessed in a wonderful way to be able to document beautifully their boy for them. Certainly your photos and willingness to witness this day with them will always be treasured. I don't know how to comprehend the ache in Alicia's heart, I'm praying that God will show her something beautiful in all of this as well as make her peace and comfort quick and deeply rooted. I also know that what you've witnessed has hit you like a ton of bricks. Please feel free to call ...I don't mind crying on the phone. Misty"
My "Chazown"
It all started a few months after I started my photography business several years ago. I remember being on a photographer's website and reading that she volunteers her time to photograph children who either don't have long to live, or have already passed away. After a lot of time and tears that night, I KNEW that was what I was suppose to do.
Although this 'God-press' was always with me, I let a lot of things, well, excuses, stand in the way of taking the next step. I became comfortable in my own life. Also, just starting out in the business, I felt very intimidated by this particular photographer and the fact that she reviews a person's work before allowing them to become a part of her organization. ("What if I wasn't good enough?") I also used the excuse that we may be moving out of state and it seemed better to wait until we found out where we'd be living. All of these were just excuses that allowed me to stay in my comfort zone, but kept me out of God's will for my life.
Meanwhile, we made plans to move from Georgia to Arizona. Before leaving, we mentioned to someone at our church in Georgia how much we were going to miss Crossroads. He nonchalantly said, "I don't know where you're moving in Arizona, but I have a friend who is a pastor at a church there and it's very similar to Crossroads." Turns out, not only was Lifechurch.tv the most PERFECT fit for all of us, it was only 10 minutes from our house!
So here's where "Chazown" comes into play... A few months after we moved here, I got an email from our pastor with an invitation to join a small group. The focus was going to be on a book writen by Craig Groeschel (our main pastor out of Oklahoma). For some reason, I (again) KNEW we were suppose to be in this group.
To make a long story short, "Chazown" is Hebrew for a vision or dream. The Bible says, "Where there is no vision (chazown), the people perish" (Proverbs 29:8, KJV). The study takes past experiences, spiritual gifts and core values to help you hear from God on what HIS purpose for your life is. After reading, praying, journaling and discussion, I was once again reminded of what I was suppose to be doing.
So about the time I finished this study, I decided I wasn't going to let any excuses get in the way of what I knew I was suppose to be doing. In one week's time, I applied to two different organizations dedicated to photographing terminally ill children and babies. (The parents call the photographer out to the hospital to take professional photos of the baby at no cost.) Also that week, I emailed a nurse from a hospital nearby to see if she could help me make my services available for anyone in need.
At the end of that week, I remember getting a generic email from my MOMS Club about a mom whom I had never met. They explained that she was pregnant and the doctors had detected several problems with her baby boy. The same voice that had consistantly spoken to me made it very clear that I should talk to her.
Alicia not only allowed me the opportunity to photography Gavin during his short time here, she and her family also allowed me to be in the operating room during her c-section and stay with their family as they all loved, held and said goodbye to Gavin. Although I felt like I had lost someone very close to me that day, I also felt like I had gained a special relationship with a wonderful family.
I thank God for opening the doors and allowing me to carry out His specific will for my life.
Alicia asked that I post an email she sent me.
"Christy,
I need to say thank you again. Without you, so many moments of our son's life would have gone undocumented. I have so many wonderful images to remind me just what his lips looked like, or the curve of his cheek, or the angle of his nose, all of the things I feared I wouldn't be able to remember. These are gifts you've given me that I can't even describe their importance. I could never have given him such a beautiful service that didn't look thrown together without the pictures and dvd. You captured a lifetime of photos, his short lifetime's worth, and I am SO grateful. I pray daily to be in the spirit for my children despite feeling my gift was not left for me to enjoy. We have many blessings to be grateful for, including the wonderful moments we had with Gavin, so I will snap out of it. Some moments are easier than others. Thank you, again,
Alicia"

It's SNOWING in Arizona!
The mess got bigger and bigger and bigger.
Before I knew it, Rayna, Murphy and I were also completely covered.
Yes, kids cause a lot of un-necessary messes. But, it's so much fun to just enjoy the moment (and the mess)!

Rain, Rain...Go Away!
A Day in the Life of Ross...
It feels like everytime someone asks me what I did that day, the response is always the same: "I took Ross to the
Flowers for Rayna
A lot of people use their blog for deep thoughts and inspirational stories. Although I don't have either one, I DID have a quick thought I will share.
As me, Ross and Rayna took a walk through the neighborhood today, I watched Ross get SO excited each time we passed a new flower bush. He would insist we stop to pick one of each color. (You know our neighbors are loving us!)
It was a great reminder to not only take time to enjoy the little (and beautiful) things in life, but see things through the eyes of a child.
And yes... (for all of you who know about how Ross picked flowers for Rayna the day we brought her home from the hospital...) he's still picking flowers for his "doll-baby."

Baby Gavin
After crying and praying for Gavin one morning, I came downstairs to find my mother in law also in tears. She asked me to listen to something online that was just sent to her. I don't believe this was a coincidence. The link below is a phone call from a 12-year old boy in Texas who just lost something very close to him. Take a minute to listen:

A lot of you have joined my family in prayer for Gavin. His scheduled C-section is THIS THURSDAY (12-6) at 3pm. The doctors are saying there's a 99.9..% chance he won't make it. But, we all have faith that God can choose to heal Gavin. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY THIS WEEK for a MIRACLE!
If you're someone who likes to pray for specific needs, here's what his mom requested prayer for:
1. Pray that when he's born he will be able to breathe on his own, or with very minor assistance. (Since his kidneys aren't functioning, the amniotic fluid was swallowed and not refilled in the amniotic sac. This causes lung problems since they need the flow of fluid over their lungs- primarily during specific weeks of gestation to allow the "terminal sacs" and other lung parts to develop properly.)
2. Pray blood work will show his kidneys are functioning.
Most of us have been so blessed with a healthy family. Let this be a reminder to all of us to enjoy each day with our children and continue to thank God for everything He has blessed us with.

49er Game
= A GREAT NIGHT!
Considering Matthew is the BIGGEST 49er fan
(and they were playing the Arizona Cardinals here), we knew that would be the perfect birthday gift! If you watched the game on Sunday, you'll understand the concerned look on Matthew's face. But, they came through in over-time! We had a great time!

Arizona State Fair
We wanted to do something fun with Ross, so we loaded up and spent a few hours at the Arizona State Fair. Although at first it didn't feel like true 'fair weather,' it cooled down and we got to enjoy the animals and rides. Ross LOVED the roller-coaster (as you can see from his face in the pictures)! He kept saying, "More, Da-Da! More, Da-Da!"

Matthew
I found out two years ago that Matthew was the most incredible dad ever. But after having another baby, I am reminded again of how blessed I am.
As I woke up during the middle of our first night in the hospital with Rayna, I saw him quietly getting Rayna wrapped back up after a diaper change and bottle feeding. It was then I realized I had fallen asleep during her last feeding too.
Someone at the hospital was impressed with Matthew's abilities to wake-up every three hours to feed, change and document Rayna's activities. She made the remark that Matthew was a great "help." Although I've heard this a hundred times, it's still funny to me. Matthew has never "helped" me. I can say this because there's never been a day when Matthew hasn't given 100% as much to Ross or our family as I have.
Very early this morning I watched Matthew's tired and aching body climb off of the tiny couch he'd been resting on the last 18 hours. He checks on Rayna and then crawls in the hospital bed with me. So as we turn off the lights and curl up together in a bed made for one, I sleep better than I have in three months.
